An American Eagle airplane collided with an Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and crashed into the Potomac River. All 67 occupants of both aircraft died. Investigators have recovered the black boxes and are searching for more wreckage. The cause is still unclear, but initial indications suggest that the helicopter may have exceeded the altitude limit. President Trump blamed diversity programs without evidence, which sparked criticism. Among the victims are people from several countries, including young figure skaters. Recovery work is ongoing. Today, the Bundestag is voting on the CDU/CSU's “influx limitation law”, which provides for a tightening of migration policy, including a limit on immigration and the end of family reunification for those in need of subsidiary protection. A majority is expected, with the support of the CDU/CSU, AfD, FDP and BSW. The SPD and Greens are against it, mainly due to constitutional concerns. If it is passed, it still has...

China is building a gigantic military facility near Beijing – 10 times larger than the Pentagon

Satellite images reveal a huge military project: 30 km southwest of Beijing, a 1,500-hectare facility is being built that will be at least ten times the size of the Pentagon.   Deep concrete bunkers with underground connections! According to US intelligence, the facility is to coordinate China's military warfare! Possible connection to Xi Jinping's goal of enabling an invasion of Taiwan by 2027! Stronger nuclear armament and integration of different military branches! Expert assessments: Dennis Wilder (former CIA China analyst): “If confirmed, this underground command center would be a clear sign that Beijing is not only building a world-class conventional army, but also seeking to develop a modern nuclear warfare capability.” Hsu Yen-chi (Council on Strategic and Wargaming Studies, Taipei):  “The site is much too large for a normal military base – it must be an administrative command center or a strategic training facility.”

Global events and developments: Focus on politics, the economy and disasters

At least seven people have been killed and around ten others injured in a stampede during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, India. The panic broke out on Wednesday night near a cordoned-off area as millions of devotees were taking a holy dip. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the relatives. Opposition parties blame the authorities for the chaos and criticize “mismanagement” and “VIP culture”. A similar disaster had already occurred at the festival in 2013, resulting in 36 deaths. The Trump administration is planning to drastically downsize the federal administration and is offering 2 million civilian federal employees financial incentives to resign. The “Deferred Resignation Program” allows them to remain paid until September 30, but without having to work in presence. All civilian employees except those in the security and immigration sectors are affected. Democrats and trade unions have sharply criticized the programme and warned of pressure on employees. Trum...
